Programme Manager – South Africa

We have an opportunity in our Cape Town office for a Programme Manager to lead and deliver a suite of high-value technology projects across the Group. We are seeking an experienced professional who is passionate about driving innovation, ensuring project excellence, and delivering measurable business outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing complex transformation projects (ideally using agile methodologies) within the financial services sector and will be accustomed to working in a fast-faced, high-velocity environment. You will be responsible for overseeing the full project lifecycle, engaging with stakeholders at all levels, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to budget.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of high-value technology projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic priorities.
- Oversee multiple related projects, managing interdependencies, risks, and resource allocation across the Transformation team.
- Manage all phases of the project lifecycle, from initiation and requirements gathering through to delivery, adoption, and post-implementation review.
- Apply agile project management methodologies to drive project delivery, facilitate sprint planning, and ensure continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including business users, technology teams, vendors, and third parties.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, budgets, resource allocations, and risk registers.
- Monitor project progress, proactively identify and resolve issues, and ensure timely escalation of risks or blockers.
- Champion the business’s continuous improvement programme, identifying opportunities to embed changes supporting the overall Transformation strategy.
- Ensure adherence to governance, compliance, and change management frameworks.
- Prepare and deliver regular project status reports and presentations to senior management and stakeholders.
- Support the training and adoption of new systems and processes resulting from project delivery.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support the Transformation team and wider business, acting in the best interests of the Group.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, the candidate must have a good standard of oral and written English, along with the following skills and experience:
- 5–10 years’ experience managing high-value technology programmes, ideally within the financial services sector.
- Professional project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, AgilePM) is essential.
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects using agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
- A university degree in computer science, information systems, business management, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft technologies (e.g., Office 365, Azure, Power Platform) and their application in business environments.
- High-quality soft skills with experience of managing stakeholders, interacting with business users, and motivating project resources.
- Experience working within a formalised governance and compliance framework.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and excellent presentational capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
