Senior System Analyst – Cape Town

We have an opportunity in our newly established Cape Town office for a Business Systems Analyst to assist with our digitization plans across the Group and are looking for a technology enthusiast who is passionate about developing innovative solutions to help Altum stand out as a leading business in our marketplace.
The role would suit someone with a high level of competence and familiarity with Modern Office technologies including Microsoft Power Platform, Office 365, Azure and virtualisation tools.
They will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and deploying solutions that meet the needs of our business and clients, therefore need to be organised and comfortable with dealing with
Key Responsibilities
Business System Development (circa 70%)
Responsible for designing, developing, testing and maintaining applications using the Microsoft Power Platform tools and services to digitize business operations. Including:
- Analyzing business requirements and translating them into functional and technical specifications for Power Platform solutions.
- Developing and configuring Power Apps, Power Automate flows, Power BI dashboards and reports, power virtual agents, and other components using best practices and standards.
- Testing, debugging, and troubleshooting Power Platform solutions and ensuring their quality, performance and security.
- Documenting, deploying, and managing Power Platform solutions in line with Altum’s change management framework.
- Providing technical support and guidance to end users and stakeholders on Power Platform features and functionalities.
- Collaborating with other team members on a variety of projects and initiatives.
Business Systems Support (circa 20%)
While ideally a candidate would have experience of our core systems, more important is an aptitude and a desire to understand them. Our core business systems (NavOne, Allvue, RiskScreen) are supported in the main by business champions and our third-party suppliers, however there will be a component of maintaining these applications and assisting users from a technical perspective from time to time.
- Liaise with third parties such as external IT service providers, software vendors, and other parties as required, to further integration opportunities or escalate issues as required.
- Assist with testing and validating system upgrades prior to release to the business and support the training of business users on any new functionality.
- Assist with data migration and population of any new or replacement systems.
- Seek to identify any repeating errors or issues that stem from a lack of operational rigour or sub-standard working practices in other parts of the business and report to management.
General Support (circa 10%)
We are currently a lean global team and this role is the first Technology position based in the Cape Town office. As such, there will be occasions where the candidate is expected to assist with Technology activities outside of their main role including:
- Management of helpdesk tickets, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues, user queries and enhancement requests.
- Set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT hardware, including workstations, peripherals and network devices.
- Liaise with business users via phone, email and face-to-face, with a friendly, approachable and “can-do” attitude.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support the IT team and wider business, and generally act in the best interests of the Group by supporting team members.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
To be successful in this role, the candidate must have a good standard of oral and written English, along with the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrable interest in technology and innovative solutions.
- Desire to work in an IT role within the financial services industry.
- A university degree in computer science, information systems or a related field.
- At least two years experience within a Technology department, working with Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft 365 tools.
- Demonstrable experience of process automation.
- Experience working within a formalized governance framework.
- A modern understanding and experience of information security practices.
- Knowledge of data modeling, data analysis, data visualization and report design.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience with NavOne or Allvue systems is a distinct advantage, but not a requirement.
