Role summary
This is a key management position. We would expect the Manager to have at least 3 years’ experience working in a similar organisation. They should hold a suitable professional qualification (CA(SA), SAIPA, ACCA) The Manager should be capable of acting autonomously and would report to a Senior Manager in Jersey but would also be responsible for the supervision of other staff in South Africa.
Key responsibilities
- Review of transactions of complex range of funds, management companies and associated fund structures and liaise with clients and intermediaries as necessary
- Review all aspects of accounting matters for a portfolio of fund structures, including monthly/quarterly NAVs, the preparation, reconciliation and proofing of investor reports, statutory financial statements and ad-hoc investor queries
- Adhere to all reporting deadlines for monthly, quarterly and annual reports
- Liaise with the auditors to complete routine audit queries and manage audits
- Review periodic bank reconciliations and supporting documentation evidencing transactions
- Maintain accurate records on Allvue and Caseware/Excel working paper schedules for all aspects of accounting
- Provide on the job coaching and supervision to more junior members of the accounting team
- Manage client relationships and communicate with them appropriately
- Maintain and Monitor task list of allocated portfolio to ensure completion on a timely basis,
- Effectively manage workload, complete daily work and allocated project work as needed; and
- Effectively communicate the status of workload to superiors as appropriate
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of personal time in line with group procedures as well as monitoring those of the South African team; and
- Ensure time records are up to date at all times
- Maintain confidentiality and security in terms of client affairs and papers
- Develop and maintain good staff relations generally within the team and wider Company
- Ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with Company internal procedures
- Monitor your own performance against personal and development targets as well as the performance of any junior staff allocated to you and bring any concerns to the attention of the relevant Director; and
- Ensure compliance with the Company’s professional conduct, quality and ethical standards
- Identify areas where further training is required and bring these to the attention of the Team’s management
- Consider regulatory issues at all times and report any concerns to management as appropriate
Expected Skills/Experience
- CA(SA) or equivalent qualification
- Strong financial services experience (4 years)
- IT literate and confident when word processing, using Internet software, E-Mail, Database software and Excel Spreadsheets.
- Previous experience in Fund accounting (Private Debt, Private Equity and Venture Capital) would be advantageous.
