Role summary
We are seeking an accountant to join our Family Office team in our Cape Town office. This is a position suitable for candidates, preferably with more than 2 years’ experience from a directly related position in a similar quality organisation ideally with some private equity or private debt experience. The ideal candidate will be a professional accountant with a recognised professional qualification, have a strong academic background and be highly numerate with drive and enthusiasm, which is compatible with the organisation as a whole.
Key responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting in accordance with client deadlines.
- Assist with all aspects of accounting matters, including the preparation, reconciliation and proofing of investor reports, statutory financial statements and ad hoc investor requests.
- Assist with the completion of routine audit queries.
- Prepare periodic bank reconciliations and provide or source supporting documentation evidencing transactions.
- Maintain accurate records on NavOne, Allvue and Microsoft Excel working paper schedules for all aspects of bookkeeping.
- Prepare management accounts, NAVs and annual financial statements, in accordance with FRS 102 or IFRS.
- Ensure that bank accounts and investment portfolios have been reconciled in accordance with the Company’s procedures and that all reconciling items are satisfactorily resolved.
- Provide on the job coaching and supervision to more junior members of the accounting team.
- To maintain and develop good relationships with client personnel.
- To develop and maintain good staff relations generally in the Firm.
- To demonstrate strong technical accounting knowledge when dealing with admin teams, client personnel and auditors.
- To ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with Company internal procedures.
- To maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and security in terms of client affairs and papers.
- To monitor your own performance against personal and development targets.
- To ensure compliance with the Company’s professional conduct, quality and ethical standards.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of personal time in line with group procedures; and
- Ensure time records are always up to date.
- Maintain and monitor task list to ensure completion on a timely basis, under supervision of your superior;
- Effectively manage workload, complete daily work and allocated project work as needed; and
- Effectively communicate the status of workload to superiors as appropriate.
Skills and experience
- SAIPA / AGA or equivalent qualification.
- Strong financial services experience (2-4 years).
- IT literate and confident with word processing, using Internet software, E-Mail, Database software and Excel Spreadsheets.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Previous fund administration (Real Estate or Private Equity) experience will be beneficial.
